Supportive Documents:

1.  A  CO DORA letter dated August 5, 2010, signed by Jacquelyn Arclelin, Program manager (click to read letter). It clearly states that:

“Dry Needling training requirements were established in rule 11, BUT WE DO NOT PRE-APPROVE ANY PROGRAM.
Our guidance to physical therapists wanting to obtain this training is simply letting them know that whatever program they choose must meet these outlined requirements.”

Colorado’s Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) has approved trigger point dry needling technique for physical therapists.

Rule 11 imposed TWO key requirements –

  • 46 hours of face-to-face training,
  • two years of practice as licensed PT.
  • Please see  http://www.dora.state.co.us/physical-therapy/Rules.pd
  • CO’s DORA has never indicated that there exists a requirement to complete specific “Level one” and “Level two” trainings.

DORA has solely stated that PTs need to complete 46 hours face-to face training.

American Dry needling Institute offers two courses for CO physical therapists and doctors of chiropractic
